73rd Anniversary DinnerThe Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento celebrated its 73rd Anniversary with members and family. Congratulations to JoAnn Moffett who was announced as the Club's President, Elect, Elect. She will serve as the 75th President. Along with being announced as the 75th President, Joann received the prestigious Club Service Award for her service as a Co-Director of Youth Services and Meal on Wheels. John Raney's DemotionThe Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento demoted President John Raney, first meeting in person meeting since March 2020. Dave Kamminga is inducted as the Club's 73rd President. More pictures are available in the Demotion Dinner Photo Album.

International Joint MeetingThe Rotary Clubs of West Sacramento, Vail Colorado, and Tegucigalpa (Honduras) met via Zoom to celebrate a successful International Service Project. Led by Siva Sivakumaran from the West Sacramento Rotary Club, Siva brought the members together, even with a language barrier to describe the project. The project provides water during water shortages, improves sanitation and personal hygiene for 4,500 students at Escuela Santa Teresa de Jesus School in Tegucigalpa Honduras with the constructed two water tanks and infrastructure. |
Rotarian Bob Ceccato Recognized by the South Korean GovernmentIn a special ceremony hosted by U.S. Representative, Ami Bera, West Sacramento Rotarian, Bob Ceccato, a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient, was awarded the "Ambassador for Peace" Medal from the South Korean Government. This Medal was presented to Bob for his "Heroism and Sacrifice" during the Korean War as a combat medic with a rifle company.

The Loss of a RotarianIke Parsons passed away on September 5th. Ike Joined the Rotary Club of West Sacramento in 1964 and had over 50 years of near perfect attendance. Ike was know for his unusual quests of speakers that would amuse all. Ike will be surely asking Paul Harris those questions now.

Working with the Yolo County Food BankWest Sacramento Rotarians at work with the Yolo County Food Bank.. Charyl Silva reconnected with 2 former members of the River City High School Interact Club. It is great to see that they are continuing to serve after graduating.

West Sacramento Rotary Loses One Fine ManIt is with deep regret to report that Tim Carnahan passed away on May 12, 2020 from complications from colitis. Tim joined Rotary in 1993 and served as Club President in 2003-2004. He has been our inspirational leader and historian. Tim served as the Newsletter Editor and reported that "never let the truth get in the way of a good story." Tim always had a smile on his face and he will be missed. West Sacramento Rotary Virtual MeetingOver 40 members of the Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento (along with District Governor, Ray Ward) met for the first time via Zoom since the Covid-19 pandemic created the shelter-in-place environment. Oscar Villegas, County Supervisor, gave an update for Yolo County and what the future holds. |
71st Anniversary DinnerOn February 27, 2020, the Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento celebrated the Rotary Aloha Spirit at the Annual Anniversary Dinner. District Governor, Ray Ward, Keynote Speaker Stacy Graham, and Club President Peter Anderson "hang loose" before the evening's activities begin. The Club inducted two new members, Jay Stewart and Marty Lyn Twitchell. Ken Wilson received the Club Service Award. The evening concluded with the announcement of Dave Kamminga as the Club's President-Elect, Elect for the Rotary Year of 2021-22. Additional pictures are available in the Photo Section.

Valentine's Day at West Sacramento RotaryThe Mighty Rotary Club of West Sacramento celebrated Valentine's Day with the return of the "Not So Newlywed Game." Ron Chambers served as the Game's Host, Not Bob Eubanks, Maybe Better. Couple #1 and winners Jaclyn Powell and Justin Allen. Couple #2 Amy and Neil Busch Couple #3 Kat and Brian Gallagher The River City Interact Club sold chocolates. District Governor, Ray Ward attended to see all the fun.

Check out the Conference Promos: "Escape to Rotaryville" "Back to the Conference." Ray recognized Kat Gallagher as the "Soaring Rotarian." Kat has stepped up to assist in the organization of the Interact Club at River City High School. Siva Sivakumaran has recognized as the "Quiet Rotarian." Siva has be the Chair for International Service and has been the leading force in our Honduras Water Project. |

Television News Reporter and Anchor Stan AtkinsonRecent speaker, Stan Atkinson was a television news reporter and anchor for over 45 years. For many years Stan served as the principal news anchor in Sacramento for KCRA, Channel 3 and KOVR, Channel 13. He is considered one of the most popular news figures in Sacramento. He covered stories all across the globe, from Vietnam to Somalia, South Africa to Bosnia, and El Salvador to Pakistan. |
